Blows From Tire Iron Send Victim To St. Joe's: Police

Joliet police say the officers responded to a residence in the 800 block of Oakland Avenue for a report of a battery.

JOLIET, IL — A 37-year-old Joliet man accused of using a tire iron to injure someone last weekend is now in the Will County Jail after turning himself in at the Joliet police station, arrest reports show.

Julian Ruiz-Clavijo, who comes from the 1000 block of North Prairie Avenue, is now detained and charged with aggravated battery. His victim suffered non-life threatening injuries, Joliet police noted.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the attack happened in the 800 block of Oakland Avenue and this is what led to the arrest of Ruiz-Clavijo:

  • Officers learned that Ruiz-Clavijo had struck another man in the head multiple times in the head with a tire iron. It is believed that while the victim and his girlfriend were in the driveway of the residence, Ruiz-Clavijo, believed to be the ex-boyfriend of the woman, approached the victim, and struck him in the head with a tire iron.
  • Ruiz-Clavijo then fled the area in a vehicle. The victim was taken to the Ascension St Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department for non-life-threatening injuries to his head.
  • On Monday at 5:40 p.m., Ruiz-Clavijo was placed into custody without incident after turning himself in at the Joliet Police Department.
  • He was processed and then transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
