Tour the Joliet Iron Works Historic Site on Aug. 13
Interpreters will lead people on a walk through old sites that have been preserves from Joliet's once-thriving iron works industry.

The Will County Forest Preserve District issued this press release:
Find out why Joliet is called the “City of Steel and Stone” at a free, all-ages family hike through the Joliet Iron Works Historic Site.
The tour, sponsored by the Forest Preserve District of Will County, will be Tuesday, August 13, at 6:00 p.m. Registration is required.

Join an interpreter on a guided tour through the foundations and remaining features of this once-thriving industrial plant. Learn about iron and steel production and the stories of the men who worked at the site during its 60 years of operation, from the 1870s to the 1930s. Anyone interested in local history will enjoy this insightful look at Joliet’s blue-collar origins.
The tour is outdoors on a paved trail with inclines. The site requires walking at a leisurely pace for more than 1 mile, with frequent stops.

The Joliet Iron Works Historic Site is located on Columbia Street, off of Scott Street and just east of the Ruby Street bridge, in downtown Joliet.
