Driver Runs Off Into The Night After Train Crash In Joliet
The collision caused the Toyota to flip over, according to Joliet police officials.

JOLIET, IL — A person driving a stolen car in Joliet was nowhere to be found after the car was hit by a Canadian National freight train in the middle of the night.
According to Joliet police, the railroad crossing collision happened at 3:38 a.m. Tuesday in the 900 block of East Washington Street.
Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English advised the following events took place:

- A Toyota Prius was westbound at the East Washington Street railroad crossing at which time it was struck by a southbound Canadian National freight train travelling at approximately 5 mph.
- The collision caused the Toyota to flip over. After the collision, the driver of the Toyota exited the vehicle and ran from the scene prior to the arrival of Joliet police.
- There were no other occupants of the vehicle. No injuries were reported.
- Officers made contact with the owner of the vehicle, and it was determined the vehicle had previously stolen.
- Officials from the Canadian National Railroad responded to the scene and this crash remains under investigation.
