Troy Baseball Got Rid Of Treasurer Nicole Edgar

Nicole Edgar was taken away in handcuffs by the Will County Sheriff's Office.

JOLIET, IL - A 40-year-old Shorewood woman was arrested on Monday by the Will County Sheriff's Office in connection with a seven-month-long embezzlement investigation involving the Troy Baseball League. Nicole Edgar, police reports show, served as treasurer for the Troy Baseball League. She has been charged with committing a felony theft of more than $500.

On Thursday, Troy baseball officials issued the following press release related to the felony charges filed against Edgar:

"Earlier this year, the Board of Directors of the Troy Baseball League became aware of possible fiscal improprieties by its Treasurer, who was an independent contractor and not a member of the Board. The Troy Baseball Board immediately took action internally releasing her of her duties on May 9th 2018 and also referred the matter to the Will County Sheriff and the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office for further investigation.

"Three (board) members stated that they recently discovered that some withdrawals, payments, and overdraft charges that they observed in the organizations financial records were suspicious," police said.

There were seven suspicious financial transactions between Jan. 21 and March 29, plus $170 in overdraft fees; and a missing bank deposit from concession stand sales, Will County police said.

"They stated that prior to this meeting they brought their concerns to the Troy Baseball Treasurer, Nicole Edgar, and asked her to provide all financial and bank statements. Edgar provided them with the records on (May 9," sheriff's reports state.

Two days later, Edgar made a deposit into the Troy Baseball bank account for the purpose of restitution, police said.

"At this meeting the members advised deputies that they had been in contact with their attorney and were advised to make a police report regarding the issue. It was unclear at this meeting whether or not a criminal complaint would be pursued," sheriff's reports state.

Then last week, on Dec. 7, a criminal complaint was filed at the Will County Courthouse and the Will County Sheriff's Office got a bench warrant for Edgar's felony arrest.

She was booked into the Will County Jail with a $100,000 bail on Monday and posted the necessary 10 percent later in the day.
