Six members of Troy Middle School’s Golf Team – three boys and three girls - made it all the way to the IESA State Golf Competition this year, the most the school has ever had.

Lincoln Chizmark, a 7th grader, scored an 80 at the competition, which placed him 18th in the state.

“The Golf Team played wonderful,” Coach Scott Kaciuba said. “They played really tough. We had half of our Sectional athletes make it down to State this year, and we’re only improving. A lot of our girls are going to Joliet West next year, but most of our boys are staying, and we have a chance to bring out even more of our boys this year.”

“We’re really happy at having six golfers go to State,” said Coach Adam DeGroot. “Golf is such a mentally tough game, being able to stay on an even keel and always being able to control your emotions through the highs and the lows. I was very proud of the level of maturity that our group of golfers showed. Going to rebound from coming off a double or triple bogie and back to hit the par at the next hole, that mental toughness is not easy to maintain. We’re super thankful for the opportunity our school offers for this program.”

“These athletes did an absolutely phenomenal job,” said Troy Director of Athletics and Activities Meagan DeGroot. “We would also like to thank the Inwood Golf Course for partnering with our school, with a special thanks to Brian Legan for setting up course times for the season and summer camp.”
