Three Troy Middle School eighth-graders participated in this year’s “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day” at Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont. Destiny McNair, Brielle Phillips and Miah Vaandering spent the day touring Argonne’s cutting-edge research facilities, engaging in hands-on engineering experiments and competing in a team challenge.

They also heard motivational presentations by female engineers and learned about STEM careers from world-class scientists and engineers.

The students were nominated for the event by their District 30-C Troy Middle School science teachers Dr. Barbara Will-Henn, Colleen Fals and Jeremy Huff.

“It was very exciting to once again have our students attend the Argonne ‘Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day’ event,” Dr. Will-Henn said. “The girls had an awesome time, and they spoke with several scientists and mathematicians and learned about the work that they do.”
