Two members of the Troy Special Olympics Track and Field Team together brought home three gold medals at the recent regional meet held at Thornwood High School in South Holland.

Both competitors are Troy Middle School students. Michael Horn earned his gold medal in the softball throw, and Kayla Calvin took home gold medals in the 200-meter race and in the softball throw.

Coaches of the team are Katie Lewis and Lukas Van Eck.

“Both of our athletes worked super hard this year during practices, along with all of our team,” Lewis said. “The kids competed well through the wind, rain and cold to advance to state. I am extremely proud of them for their hard work and dedication.”

“Michael and Kayla worked very hard this season to improve on their running and throwing despite some not so good weather,” Van Eck said. “I am very proud of them and the rest of the team that wasn't able to attend the meet. All of Troy is cheering them on.”
