Underage Drunk Driver Plows Into Joliet Squad, Police Say

JOLIET, IL — While Joliet Police were investigating a one-car fatality early Sunday morning near Plainfield Road and Interstate 55, an underage intoxicated motorist from Crest Hill crashed into a parked squad car, police reports show. Fortunately, nobody was hurt, police said; the Joliet Police officer got out of the way moments before the violent crash.

The officers were already at the scene of a rollover that killed a 70-year-old passenger from Chicago. The driver of that vehicle was subsequently arrested by Joliet Police on multiple felony charges of driving under the influence and causing a death.

Then, around 3:35 a.m. on Sunday, 20-year-old Crest Hill resident Alexandria Ivy was approaching the Joliet Police cars parked along Plainfield Road, reports show.

But the Crest Hill woman didn't stop, reports show.

"While officers were investigating a crash, a vehicle driven by Ivy heading eastbound on Plainfield Road struck an unoccupied Joliet squad car that was blocking traffic with its lights on.

"One of the officers was almost pinned between the two vehicles but was able to quickly move out of the way, uninjured. Ivy attempted to leave the scene but officers were able to place Ivy into custody," Joliet Police said.

Joliet Police said they arrested Ivy on charges of obstructing a peace officer and driving under the influence of alcohol. She was later released from the Joliet Police Station on an I-bond.

"During the course of the investigation, officers were able to determine that Ivy was driving under the influence and arrested (her)," Joliet Police said.
