Vicious Attack On Bicyclist On Raynor Ave: Joliet Police Make Arrest

JOLIET, IL — For the fourth time in five years, 39-year-old Joliet resident Giovanni Alberico was captured and detained in the Will County Jail. This time, Joliet police say Alberico attacked a man, punching him in the face and damaging his bicycle back in late summer.

The violence involving Alberico took place way back on Aug. 1, according to Joliet police, and it was not until Wednesday when the officers spotted Alberico and took him away in handcuffs. He's been charged with criminal damage to property and two counts of battery.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the violent bicycle attack happened during after midnight.

According to Sgt. English:

  • At 12:04 p.m., an officer was flagged down by a man who reported that during the overnight hours of the preceding night, he was approached by a male acquaintance who attacked him and damaged his bicycle near Norley Avenue and Raynor Avenue.
  • During an argument, the victim said the man threw the victim’s bicycle to the pavement, causing damage to the bicycle. The man then punched the victim in the face and left the area, according to police.
  • Following an investigation, detectives identified Alberico as their prime suspect. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Alberico and this week, on Wednesday, at 6:53 p.m., officers located Alberico at his residence in the 900 block of Norley Avenue, and he was placed into custody without incident.

By 7 p.m. Thursday, Alberico regained his freedom, walking out of the Will County Jail, no longer under detention.
