Vintage Clothing Store Moving To Joliet From Crest Hill

JOLIET, IL — The owner of a vintage clothing store at 1922 Plainfield Road in Crest Hill intends to move his business to downtown Joliet's historic Barber Building owned by Joliet real estate investor Mike Petry. Last week, Joliet's zoning board approved a special use permit to allow the vintage clothing business to open at 70-72 N. Chicago Street.

The Joliet City Council makes the final decision on the matter.

Shayne Kelly owns Prison City Vintage, and he wants to open his vintage clothing business on the ground level of the Barber building.

Prison City Vintage sells vintage clothing ranging from the early 1900s to the early 2000s. Joliet requires a special use permit because most of his merchandise is second hand. Prison City Vintage has been at 1922 Plainfield Road in Crest Hill for three years.

"The business owner desires to move his business to downtown Joliet because he would like it to be in a more traditional downtown setting," city documents state.

Kelly intends to be open 2 to 8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and noon to 8 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.

Regarding the Barber Building, the five-story brick and stone building is at 66 through 76 N. Chicago Street. The proposed business will occupy two tenant spaces at 70-72 N. Chicago Street. Petry's upper levels of the Barber Building feature about three dozen loft apartments.
