Water Tower Maintenance To Begin June 22

The City of Joliet will begin the process of refurbishing the water tower located at 1505 Olympic Boulevard the week of June 22.

The City of Joliet will begin the process of refurbishing the water tower located at 1505 Olympic Boulevard the week of June 22, 2020. The 25-year-old water tower requires routine maintenance including structural modifications and repainting to bring the structure up to current codes and regulations. The tower will be repainted with the theme of blue and red stars on a white background with the City logo. This work, which is recommended to be completed every 25 years, will aid in extending the life expectancy of the tower.

The work will begin this week and is planned for completion in October 2020. While the work is ongoing, a full containment system will be installed for dust control and to protect adjacent properties from particulate matter. The existing coating on the water tower that is to be removed contains no hazardous components. All paint and residue removed from the tank will be removed from the site and disposed per Illinois State Regulations. The work will be performed between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
