Weigh in on the Future of Evergreen Terrace: Residents Invited to Public Meeting
The City of Joliet has scheduled a public meeting as negotiations with owners continue.

Last fall, the City of Joliet won a legal battle to condemn the Evergreen Terrace housing complex — but what should happen to the site?
Residents will get to give their input during a public meeting, scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park Theater, 201 W. Jefferson St.
Representatives of Chicago-based Holsten Real Estate Development Corporation, which is helping the city plan development for the Broadway Street site, will be at the meeting. The consulting group was also part of the redevelopment of Chicago’s Cabrini Green housing complex.

Reps from Landon Bone Baker Architects will also be at the meeting, the city said.
Last month, the site released two appraisals for the two-building, 356-apartment complex. One appraisal estimated Evergreen Terrace’s value at $13.76 million, while the other put it at $14.3 million. The owners of the federally subsidized complex put the value at $23.52 million.

The city said the second phase of condemnation began Dec. 29, and Joliet is working with the owners to settle on a selling price. If the two sides can’t reach a deal, a trial to determine the value of the complex is scheduled to start March 10.
Responses to questions and comments from residents at the Feb. 5 meeting will be posted to the City of Joliet website.
Anyone with questions prior to the Feb. 5 meeting should contact Director of Neighborhood Services Division Alfredo Melesio, at (815) 724-4100.
