Drunken Joliet Woman Let Naked Babies Wallow in Filth & 'Squalor' of Pill, Glass & Screw Strewn Home: Cops

One child was sucking on a screw and there were pills and a crack pipe on the floor, police said.

A drunken Joliet woman let her two naked babies wallow in the squalor of her filthy home, police said.

Darcie Seeden, 31, was charged with endangering the life of a child after cops showed up at her Summit Street home shortly early Thursday and found her year-old son and 2-year-old daughter living in deplorable conditions, police said.

Officers were sent to Seeden’s place about 2:30 a.m. after the children’s father, who is in the hospital, called to check on the kids, police said. The 2-year-old answered the phone and hung up on him. She hung up a second time when he called again.

Officers “knocked on door and a nude child appeared at the door,” police said. “She wasn’t wearing any clothing or a diaper.”

Seeden eventually answered the door when the officers knocked some more, police said.

“Officers entered the residence and observed that both victims, a 1-year-old male and a 2-year-old female, were walking around undressed, walking around in squalor,” police said. “The children were picking up screws, pills and padding and placing them in their mouths.

“Observed on the floor were broken bottles, broken plates, a screwdriver, crack pipe and unsecured pills,” police said. “They also saw the 1-year-old at one point sucking on a screw and playing with a bottle of cough syrup.”

The children “were dirty and had red rashes and bites on them,” police said.

The little boy and girl were taken into protective custody and the Department of Children and Family Services was contacted.

After Seeden was arrested and taken to the police department, she reportedly agreed to submit to a Breathalyzer test. She blew a 0.171, police said, more than twice the 0.08 legal limit to drive a car.
