Woman's Car, House Struck By Bullets Near Ingalls Avenue

The gunman pulled up to the victim in the 1300 block of North Larkin Avenue and threw a water bottle at her car, Joliet police announced.

JOLIET, IL — A woman's car and a house in the 1300 block of Brentwood Place both sustained several gunshots around 9 a.m. Tuesday, after a man with a gun began chasing after her along Larkin Avenue, Ingalls Avenue and finally Brentwood Place, according to Joliet police.

Nobody was injured during the shooting, and the gunman sped away. Joliet police learned that gunshots were fired around 9:10 a.m. near Brentwood Place and Westfield Road.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, the following events happened:

  • A 36-year-old woman was driving south on Larkin Avenue near Route 30 when a man driving a black four-door sedan began honking while he was behind her.
  • The man then threw a water bottle at her car in the 1300 block of Larkin Avenue, prompting her to call 911.
  • As both vehicles headed westbound on Ingalls Avenue, the man pointed his gun at the woman and fired several shots at her car.
  • The woman and the gunman drove through a neighborhood near Ingalls and Brentwood, and that's where the gunman fired several times at her, before speeding away, by heading south on Brentwood Place.
  • The victim’s vehicle and a house on Brentwood were hit by the gunfire.
  • Numerous spent shell casings were recovered by Joliet police at the scene of the shooting.

English told Joliet Patch the circumstances leading to the shooting are still being investigated.
