What's Your Favorite Spot For Cheap Gas?

A new occasional column seeks your feedback about Joliet.

JOLIET, IL - Last week's introductory column asked about your favorite place to drink coffee around Joliet. Mine is the Jitters Coffee House on North Chicago Street. This week's column tackles another topic that we all care about: gasoline prices. What's Your Favorite place to buy gas?

Mine is the Thorntons on West Jefferson Street. For me, it's all about the price.

On Tuesday morning, as I drove into Joliet from Shorewood, I saw one gas station advertising unleaded gas at $2.159. As I approached Interstate 55, still on Route 52, I saw a couple more stations selling unleaded gas for $2.399 and $2.349 respectively.

Closer to the Joliet airport, the Citgo station was selling their gas at $2.299.

I knew I could do better because Thorntons always delivers. I was right. The Thorntons near the Knights of Columbus on Infantry Drive was selling unleaded gas at $1.999 a gallon and $1.979 a gallon for those of you who use Unleaded15.

I'll be the first to warn you that the Thorntons on Jefferson Street can be pretty packed at certain times of the day, but mid-morning Tuesday wasn't bad at all. There were several open fuel pumps.

That's my take.
