Will County Coronavirus Cases Reach 21

Illinois health officials also announced that nearly 8,400 people have been administered tests to see if they have the new coronavirus.

JOLIET, IL — Illinois public health officials say the number of new coronavirus cases in Will County stands at 21 as of Sunday, March 22. Will County's first confirmed case occurred March 16, involving a man in his 50s.

Later in the week, health officials announced the man had died.

At the close of Friday's business day, Will County Health Department spokesman Steve Brandy reported 13 coronavirus cases. Will County's number increased by another eight over the weekend.

On Sunday afternoon, the Illinois Department of Public Health revealed there were now 296 new cases of coronavirus statewide, plus three more deaths: a Cook County man in his 80s, a Chicago man in his 80s and a McHenry County woman in her 70s.

Illinois announced it was up to 1,049 coronavirus cases across 30 counties. One of Sunday's new cases involved an infant.

The state also announced there have been a total of 8,374 coronavirus tests administered so far across Illinois.

In addition to the 21 confirmed coronavirus cases in Will County, the state's data for the Chicago area as of Sunday, March 22 was as follows:

  • 519 cases for Chicago
  • 286 for Cook County
  • 79 for DuPage County
  • 69 for Lake County
  • 13 for Kane County
  • 12 for McHenry County
  • 4 for Kendall County
  • 2 for Kankakee County

There are no confirmed cases in Grundy County, according to state health officials.
