Will County Courthouse Could Cost More Than $200M

The courthouse was originally estimated to cost between $150 million and $160 million.

Joliet, IL — The new Will County courthouse scheduled to be built in Joliet could end up costing more than $200 million.

Darien-based design firm Wight & Co. gave three preliminary designs for the courthouse.

“The first was for eight floors and 26 courtrooms at $180 million; the second was for 10 floors and 34 courtrooms at $197 million; and the third was for 11 floors and 38 courtrooms at $204 million,” according to a report from The Herald-News.

The courthouse was originally estimated to cost between $150 million and $160 million, the paper reported.

The Will County Board’s Capital Improvement Committee voted Wednesday for a working budget of $195 million to get the project moving.
