County Executive Larry Walsh Won't Seek 5th Term
A Democrat from Elwood, Larry Walsh was first elected as the Will County Executive in 2004.

JOLIET, IL — Will County Executive Larry Walsh Sr. announced Thursday that he will not be running for re-election in next year's race. A Democrat from Elwood, Walsh has served as the Will County Executive since winning office in 2004 He previously served as a state senator. His son, Larry Walsh Jr., is now a state representative for Joliet's 86th District.
"I have been so blessed to have a role and a front row seat to witness the tremendous growth of Will County," Walsh stated in a press release. "Now I want the opportunity to watch my grandchildren grow up. Anyone in public service understands this is not a nine to five job.
"You must truly have your heart and soul focused to (serve) in public office."

The Will County Executive and the Will County State's Attorney's position are two of the key political positions that will be up for election in 2020.
According to the county, Walsh has "been very open about his health issues, successfully battling prostate cancer and a re-occurrence of cancer more recently. However, he acknowledges taking care of his health is now his number one priority."

Walsh intends on fulfilling his duties as the county's executive until the voters of Will County choose his successor in the November 2020 election, Walsh's press release noted.
