Will County Health Officials: 34 New Coronavirus Cases, 3 Deaths

JOLIET, IL – Although the state’s coronavirus positivity rate dropped slightly over the past 24 hours, Will County continues to see additional confirmed cases and deaths, local health officials announced on Wednesday.

A day after the Will County Health Department did not report a death, the deaths of local residents due to the coronavirus was reported on Wednesday in addition to 34 new cases. The age and genders of those who died were not available as of Wednesday evening, health officials indicated.

However, according to state health officials, the Will County deaths included a female in her 60s, a female in her 70s and a female in her 80s.

A total of 6,480 people have tested positive in Will County and 315 people have died. The total death toll is actually one less than previously reported after one death was reclassified on Tuesday, Will County health officials announced.

Statewide, 715 new coronavirus cases were announced on Wednesday as well as 64 additional deaths, which takes the statewide total to 138,540 and 6,670 deaths. The tally does not include another 1,000 probable causes and an additional 204 probable deaths, state officials indicated.

Over the past 24 hours, 29,331 people in Illinois have been tested for a total of 1.4 million people who have been tested since the start of the pandemic. State officials announced that while the seven-day positivity rate rose to 3 percent, the same rate over the past 24 hours had dropped to 2.4 percent.
