Wilmington Meth User Falls Trying To Flee Joliet PD In Cuffs: Cops

Joliet police responded to the 1500 block of West Acres Road for a suspicious vehicle.

JOLIET, IL — Two months after Joliet police arrested Devin Goodwin in connection with the theft of copper inside the old abandoned U.S. Steel property, the 27-year-old Wilmington resident was arrested in Joliet on Sunday morning.

Officers hauled Goodwin off to the Will County Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing identification, resisting a peace officer, and a Grundy County arrest warrant.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, the following events led to Goodwin's second arrest by Joliet police since May 8:

At 7:23 a.m. on Sunday, officers responded to the 1500 block of West Acres Road for a suspicious vehicle. Goodwin was asleep in the driver’s seat of the parked vehicle. Officers woke up Goodwin, who initially provided them with a fictitious name. Officers determined Goodwin’s actual identity. Upon search of Goodwin, officers found suspected methamphetamine in his pants pockets.

While the officer was walking Goodwin to the squad car, Goodwin pulled away and attempted to run while he was still in handcuffs.

Goodwin fell to the ground and officers quickly caught up to him, and he was secured without further incident. Officers found drug paraphernalia after searching Goodwin’s vehicle.

Goodwin held an active Grundy County arrest warrant for failing to appear in court on previous forgery charges. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
