Wondering What A CASA Volunteer Does?

Unfortunately, there are 537 children involved in the juvenile court system, due to no fault of their own, in River Valley – Will and Grundy counties. They are the innocent victims of domestic violence, substance abuse and countless other issues that plague our society. And too many of these children are voiceless.

CASA of River Valley is the only organization in the community that trains volunteers to watch over children removed from at-risk families. Our volunteers act as the eyes and ears of the Judge to make sure each child is living in a safe and healthy home.

The COVID-19 pandemic has struck at the safety and stability of families that have experienced enormous adversity and hardship, exasperating situations that existed prior to the pandemic. Over the last two years, there has been an alarming 50% increase of children entering the system. As those statics increase, so does CASA’s waitlist to serve children. Children like, Vincent who had been kept in a residential facility long past when he should have been able to go home, even though his parents had completed their services and had a safe home ready for him.
