📰 News we're reading
• Kane County Board OKs more reallocations of COVID-19 relief funds, with spending deadline approaching (chicagotribune.com) — Kane County leaders just approved more than $600,000 in new reallocations of remaining federal COVID-19 relief money, shifting under-budget project funds into building security, 911 radio upgrades, and State’s Attorney staffing. With about $22 million still unspent, the county must finish authorizing projects by the end of 2024 and use all funds by the end of 2026, so more shifts are likely.

• Friends remember UIC student athlete Sariyah Watson killed in wrong-way crash on I-88 in Aurora (cbsnews.com) — A 21-year-old UIC track sprinter from DeKalb was one of three people killed in a wrong-way crash early Sunday on I-88 in Kane County near Aurora. Friends and former teammates are mourning her as a joyful, supportive presence, while UIC Athletics offers counseling and support to students and staff shaken by the tragedy.
