Man Killed When Car Slams Into Tree In Riverside
The victim was a 20-year-old man who police say was in the back seat of a Lexus when it crashed into a tree.
RIVERSIDE, IL — A man was killed early Thursday morning after a car slammed into a tree in Riverside. First responders arrived in the 100 block of East Burlington Street just after midnight and tried to save a 20-year-old from Chicago who died soon after at a nearby hospital. The man had not been identified by authorities as of early Thursday afternoon.
Police found the car, a 1998 Lexus, wrapped around a tree on the block and a second car stopped just west of there. The early stages of an investigation show that the victim was a back-seat passenger in the car when the driver lost control and struck a tree, Riverside police said Thursday.
Burlington Street near the crash area was closed for six hours Thursday morning as officials investigated.

Investigators are still trying to figure out what role, if any, the second car at the scene played in the crash. It was a 1999 Jaguar that did not have any obvious damage.
