Citizens' Council to Host "Candidate 101"

Citizens' Council of La Grange will be providing unique opportunity to learn about running for and serving as a Village Trustee.

La Grange,IL The Citizens’ Council of La Grange (CCLG) will host an educational meeting about serving in local government. It is designed to be insightful for residents but is tailor-made for prospective candidates for the La Grange Board of Trustees. Members of the panel will include former village presidents Liz Asperger and Tim Hansen and former trustee Ken Eastman. It will be moderated by past trustee Nancy Kenney.

CCLG Chairman, Beth Augustine says, “It is at the core of our mission to seek, encourage and educate citizens to participate in the elected offices of La Grange. The Village, Park and Library boards are all elected. There is the process for getting on the ballot and then there is the process of actually serving as trustee, we will discuss both. Our hope is that the stories and lessons relayed by our esteemed panel will provide valuable comprehension and maybe even serve as a springboard for future office seekers.”

In the past year, the Council has held several special meetings. The first, on liquor laws, was followed by a presentation from the Department of Public Works on flooding, aging infrastructure, and trees. Most recently, the Council sponsored a local survey, “Views on the Village.” This resident survey offered a simple way to provide input on how residents feel about village services and amenities.
