McCook, IL – On October 30, ComEd presented Michael Lewis Company with the largest Distributed Generation rebate to date of nearly $500,000. The solar array on the company’s 400,000 square-foot distribution warehouse was activated in June and includes more than 5,800 solar panels. And even with snow falling the company’s solar array was still generating energy.

In just the first month, the solar installation produced 130 megawatts of energy. A megawatt is 1 million watts and can power 164 homes over one year. The solar installation will cut the company’s energy costs by about 50 percent.

The DG rebate program pays $250 per kilowatt of installed solar power capacity. The DG rebate aims to reduce upfront installation costs and spur renewable energy development. The current rebate amount was a requirement of the Future Energy Jobs Act enacted in December of 2016.
