Coronavirus: More Patients At La Grange Hospital

Amita chain says it has "adequate facilities" to handle patients.

LA GRANGE, IL — The hospital in La Grange is seeing more patients diagnosed with the coronavirus than it did two weeks ago, according to the hospital chain's latest information. As of Monday, Amita Adventist Medical Center La Grange had 24 patients with the coronavirus. That's up from 17 two weeks ago.

"We have adequate facilities and resources to care for these patients," Olga Solares, a spokeswoman for the Amita chain, said in an email to La Grange Patch on Monday.

At Amita's hospital in Hinsdale, 17 coronavirus patients are being treated, up from 11 two weeks ago, the chain said. Over the same period, the number of virus-related patients at Elmhurst Hospital increased to 60, from 54.

On Monday, Elmhurst Hospital reported 28 deaths of patients with confirmed cases of the coronavirus so far. That was up from 21 a week earlier. The numbers of coronavirus-related deaths at specific Amita hospitals is unknown.

Earlier this month, Amita told Patch it would not release the number of coronavirus cases for each of its hospitals. However, after Patch informed Amita that Elmhurst Hospital released such information, the chain decided to divulge the statistics to the public.

According to Cook County, La Grange had 52 coronavirus cases as of Monday. That was up from 27 a little more than a week earlier.

La Grange's rate is 3.2 coronavirus cases per 1,000 people, compared with 1.1 in Western Springs, 1.8 in La Grange Park and 3.4 in Riverside, according to the Cook County Department of Public Health.
