LA GRANGE, IL – La Grange has the money to demolish the house at 330 East Ave. The village's deadline to get the work done is Oct. 1.

On Monday, the La Grange Village Board voted for a contract with Lemont-based Donegal Services for the job. Donegal was the low bidder at $31,705. The other two bids were $44,300 and $56,865.

Donegal has performed this type of work in La Grange before, according to village documents.

Earlier this year, the village received $56,000 in state money to demolish the house. It has been the subject of a code enforcement case for the last eight years.

According to real estate websites, the 768-square-foot house was built in 1909 and includes three bedrooms and one bathroom.

According to a village memo, the owner of the vacant house has been cooperative, but lacks the money to repair it. Given the home's condition, it is unlikely the property will be redeveloped unless the house is demolished, the memo said.
