Drunk Driver Drives Into Traffic, Blows 2 Times Legal Limit: Cops

A Cicero man was arrested for drunk driving after weaving across lanes and driving into oncoming traffic, police said.

RIVERSIDE, IL — A Cicero man was arrested for drunk driving after weaving across lanes and driving into oncoming traffic, police said. An officer on patrol at 1:42 a.m. Sunday saw a car weaving all over on Longcommon Road, and the car then drove into oncoming traffic and bounced off curbs.

The officer made a traffic stop on the vehicle at Riverside and Gage Roads. Police said when the officer made contact with the driver, Allan Pineda, 27, he said he was coming from a wedding. Pineda told police that he was a little bit drunk but more sober than his passenger. According to police, the officer could smell alcohol, Pineda's eyes were bloodshot and he stumbled when asked to step out of the car.

Pineda failed all field sobriety testing, police said. A breathalyzer was administered to both Pineda and the passenger, a 20-year-old woman from Addison. Pineda blew a .22 and the passenger blew a .13.

Riverside police arrested Pineda, 27, and he was charged with improper lane usage, DUI-alcohol, and a second count of DUI when breath concentration is over .08. Police said the passenger was found to have cannabis in her possession and to be intoxicated. She was charged with possession of cannabis and underage drinking.

Police said Pineda still insisted he shouldn't be arrested because he was doing the right thing by driving as he was more sober than his passenger even though he acknowledged he was intoxicated.

“Mr. Pineda's statements that he was more sober than his passenger is ridiculous," Police Chief Thomas Weitzel said in a release. "When he could have easily called an Uber, Lyft or other ride share company or made arrangements to get a ride home from the wedding, he chose purposely to drive intoxicated. He was so drunk that he was driving into the wrong lane of traffic head-on toward other cars. To make the statement to the officer that somehow he should not be arrested because he was doing the right thing just demonstrates how intoxicated Mr. Pineda really was.”
