Earth Day Deals, Events Offered at La Grange Businesses

Many local businesses are eco-friendly throughout the year, but some are offering giveaways and discounts for Earth Day on April 22. You can get a free Patch tote bag or water bottle at participating locations.

Several La Grange businesses and organizations are offering special discounts, giveaways and events to celebrate Earth Day, and Patch is getting in on the action. 

Earth Day is this Monday, April 22, and a lot of locals are showing their commitment to being eco-friendly, whether it's through one-day deals or ongoing ways of going green. 

At some of the local businesses on Monday, you can get a free Patch tote bag or reusable water bottle, two environmentally friendly items. Just go in and find out how!

“Our local businesses are planting seeds that grow into big changes for the environment,” said Steve Jasinski, President of the La Grange Business Association and a Realtor at Baird & Warner. “But everybody can help the planet by patronizing the small businesses in our neighborhood instead of travelling a greater distance to the mall.  And even better, bike or walk to the local store,” he said.

46 South Salon & Spa 46 S. La Grange, introduces its Aveda line of hair care products by supporting the Aveda Earth Day Cut-a-Thon from noon to 8 p.m. April 22. All haircuts are $25 with 100 percent of the proceeds supporting cleaner water. Selected spa services are specially priced throughout the month to support Earth Month.

B Boutique 18 W. Burlington highlights their jewelry line, MSR Jewelry. The designer purchases some beads from the Bead for Life Organization which enables women from Uganda to sell their beads made from recycled magazines to a global market. B Boutique will offer a 10 percent discount on all full-priced accessories from April 22-26.

Bottle & Bottega will host two events, both from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Option 1) Guests will paint a 16x20 recycled canvas with the assistance of the instructors. Option 2) Guests will paint a 10x10 canvas with the assistance of the instructors and help our community by personalizing a baby item that will be donated to Pillars, a local not-for-profit organization. The canvas painting is yours to keep.

Cela Creations 77 S. La Grange Road. You can receive one free eco-friendly Bracelet created from recycled vinyl record disc beads for every 10 non-perishable food items brought in from April 23-25 to benefit the St. Francis Xavier food pantry. Limit one per customer. 

Consign and Redesign 35 S. La Grange Road offers a workshop on Flea Market Flips on Earth Day, April 22 and informational boards regarding green design and decorating tips.

DeVries Grocery 806 Arlington will provide a free reusable DeVries Grocery canvas tote to the first 10 customers who make a minimum $25 purchase April 22. DeVries also works with a local farmer to provide fresh eggs if you order them online.  

EcoManiacs 74 S. La Grange Road is a green eco-friendly specialty boutique. On Earth Day, EcoManiacs will have hourly trivia games, in-store events, and unique prizes.  The store also provides aluminum pop top recycling on an ongoing basis.

First National Bank of La Grange  620 W. Burlington will offer free sensitive document shredding from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27. Bring your documents to the professional staff from R4 Services.

Horton’s Home Lighting 60 S. La Grange Road provides paint recycling (for a small fee), and fluorescent, CFL light bulb and battery recycling at no charge. Horton’s will offer CFL light bulbs for $0.99 as well as 20 percent off all LED fixtures and replacement bulbs from April 22-28.

Huge Hearts HomeCare 639 S. La Grange Road encourages seniors and their families to go green and provides recycling collection for many household items. Seniors and their families may drop off items or they will pick up; contact them for more information at 708-352-1850. They will collect and recycle the following items: old keys, cds, DVDs, video games, cellphones, crayons, rubber-soled shoes and eyeglasses.

La Grange Police Department 304 W. Burlington is having a prescription drug take-back day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 27. It's a regional drop-off facility and will collect unwanted, expired or unused prescription drugs for a safe destruction. Call 706-579-2333 for details.

La Grange Public Library 10 W. Cossitt is accepting used eyeglasses, hearing aids and cell phones on behalf of the Lions Club. It also has an ongoing used book sale sponsored by the Friends of the Library and works with a vendor to recycles books that they are unable to sell.

Prasino 93 S. La Grange Road will host a Farm-to-Table Dinner to benefit like-minded organizations Slow Food Chicago and the Cossitt School Garden. Keeping in line with Prasino’s mission, the dinner will feature the highest quality farm-to-table ingredients sourced from local farms Knutson’s County Harvest and Prairie Fruits Farms, while educating guests about clean food. Patrons will be served a four-course dinner including menu items Great Lakes Walleye Pike, Braised Niman Ranch Beef and more. For information call 708-469-7058.

The Carousel Shop 23 Calendar Ave. accepts donations of gently used clothing, accessories, home décor, toys, books, music and magazines to support the Community Nurse Health Association.  It also offers an ongoing textile recycling on damaged clothing, leather goods, linens, lonely socks and stuffed animals. Drop off at the Carousel Shop in a bag labeled "recycling."

The Hope Chest 717 W. Hillgrove is an upscale women’s and children’s resale shop that accepts donations of new or gently used items. It also re-uses department store paper bags. Bring in department store paper bags or a clothing donation from April 23-27 for 25 percent off that day’s purchase.

The UPS Store 106 Calendar offers document shredding for $.75 per pound.

Vintage Charm  729 W. Hillgrove In addition to extending the life of items by offering vintage findings, the store has an Earth Day promotion, offering 25 percent off all tote bags for the day.
