Registration begins March 1 for YMCA Summer Camp

Registration for the amazing Greater LaGrange YMCA Summer Camps will begin Thursday, March 1. The GL Travelers camp, held at Countryside Park, 61st Street and Brainard Avenue in Countryside, runs from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 4 through Aug. 17. It is open to children ages 5 to 12 years of age and includes field trips, swimming and activities at the Elmhurst YMCA and swimming and playing on the climbing and sport walls at the Indian Boundary YMCA. Days are well planned and scheduled.Early registration is $170 for members or Countryside residents for 4 or 5 days a week and $205 for non-members. Part-time fees are $135 for members and Countryside residents and $175 for non-members.  The camp price includes all field trips, T-shirts, extended care for working parents and swim fees.Little GL Travelers Camp is open to children ages 3 to 7 and runs June 12 through Aug. 16. The children meet from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays at the YMCA and Thursdays at Yena Park, weather permitting.The weekly fee is $35 for members and $70 for non-members.The YMCA day camps are accredited camps, which means they maintain the highest standards regarding program quality. "We believe the most important elements of a positive day camp experience are the safety and well-being of your child," said Deb Strus, program director at the La Grange Park YMCA. Special adventure/swim camps include a skate park challenge the week of June 18 though the 22nd; Ferris Buehler week from July 16 to the 20 where the group will tour Chicago; Thrill Week from Aug. 6 to 10 for laser tag, Great America and Extreme Trampolines; and Summer Swim Camp June 12 and 14; June 19 and 21; Aug. 7 and 9; and Aug. 14 and 16 at the Chalet Pool in Willow Springs.Shuttle service is available from the YMCA to Countryside Park every day between 7:30 and 8 a.m. and between 5:30 and 6 p.m. for a minimal fee.More information on any of these camps is available by calling the YMCA at 708-352-7600.
