Event Raising Awareness of Women Fleeing Domestic Violence
Milk Money Brewing Event has Goal of Raising Awareness of Women Fleeing Domestic Violence

The Road to Independence Event on Thursday, March 3, 2022 has a goal of raising awareness and funds to assist homeless women fleeing domestic violence. This effort is sponsored by Mike McNamara of ProperRate, Milk Money Brewing and benefits BEDS Plus in honor of Women's History Month. The band FiddleSticks will be providing the entertainment.
The idea for this event was spearheaded by Mike McNamara, who is a La Grange resident and business owner. Mike is passionate about this cause because someone in his family was personally affected by it.
He recently shared, “I was angry and frustrated with my sister who stayed with her abusive husband for 19 years before she finally left him. The truth is, she probably wouldn't have left if she didn't have two little girls that she needed to protect. Eventually a safe-house shelter saved her life on 3 different occasions and gave her another chance at independence. A shelter is critical for so many women and children fleeing for safety."

The suggested entry fee, portion of beer sales of Mulligan’s Red Ale and matching gifts from ProperRate Mike McNamara will assist those vulnerable in our community.
Erin Molek, Community Relations Manager added, “BEDS Plus sees too many women who find themselves homeless when they decide to leave their abuser. We partner with domestic violence agencies to provide the next step on the road to independence. Your donations will directly assist them to find stability through supportive services and housing.”
