The Explorers Club opens at Windy City Playhouse

The new Windy City Playhouse has amenities such as swivel club chair seating, a full service bar and light snacks.

Chicago’s newest theater, Windy City Playhouse, starts its run with the Chicago premiere of Nell Benjamin’s slapstick farce, The Explorers Club. “Set in a Victorian-era scientific gentleman’s club. Benjamin, Tony Award™-nominated co-composer and lyricist of Broadway’s Legally Blonde, penned this madcap physical comedy, animated by lightning-quick dialogue, daredevil stunts, precision acrobatics and onstage snakes and guinea pigs.”

What’s great about the show is it is good for tweens and teens. The Explorers Club tells the story of a NaKong tribesman who is brought to London by Phyllida, a researcher hoping to gain entry into The Explorers Club. If allowed to become a member, she would be the first female member. ”Chaos ensues in The Explorers Club after Luigi inadvertently insults the Queen, possibly setting the British Empire at war with the world.” It is a madcap adventure filled with miscues and misunderstandings.

During The Explorers Club, the onstage Clubhouse bar will feature child-friendly beverages and themed beverages for adults. Light snacks are also available. The Explorers Club is part of Chicago Theatre Week 2016. Select performances, between February 11 and 21, are available for $15 and $30 via ChicagoTheatreWeek.com.
