3...2...1...GO!!! Cub Scout Pack 3177 held its annual Pinewood Derby on January 11 at the Spring Avenue School gym. The Scouts and their families had a great time watching more than 30 Pinewood cars compete for Den and Pack championships. The Pack Grand Champion, Logan T. won it all for the second year in a row with an average scale speed of 156.2 mph! Second place went to Josh O. and third went to Alex B. The car design awards were dominated by Jackson O. His Hershey bar car was voted favorite car by his fellow Cub Scouts and was also awarded Best Design overall by Voyageur Trace District Executive Tim Strudeman, who served as a special guest judge.
Cub Scouts design and build their Pinewood cars at home with help from their families. On race night, everyone gathers to watch the races and have some fun. This year, in addition to voting for their favorite car designs, Cub Scouts could visit a physical fitness activity area, practice knot tying skills and have fun in the “Hot Wheels Racing Zone.” A huge thank you to Carl Tallarovic, our timing official and trackmaster for keeping the racers rolling and maintaining the non-stop action.
Cub Scouts in Pack 3177 attend all four D105 elementary schools. They, along with their families, enjoy hiking, camping, and many other fun activities such as the Pinewood Derby. The Pack also does numerous service projects in the community throughout the year. Want to learn more about Pack 3177? Visit www.cubpack3177.org
