First Woman La Grange President Honored

Elizabeth Asperger is credited for renovation of the Stone Avenue Train Station.

LA GRANGE, IL — Former La Grange Village President Elizabeth Asperger was recognized recently for her service to the community as the village's first woman village president at a ceremony, according to a village news release.

Asperger served as a La Grange village trustee from 1997 to 2005 and village president from 2005 to 2013. She is credited with furthering a number of initiatives during her tenure, including the renovation of the Stone Avenue Train Station.

The flower garden in front of the Stone Avenue Train Station was dedicated in her honor and is identified by a plaque.

Village President Tom Livingston expressed his appreciation to Asperger for her leadership and recognized the added importance of her service on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the women's suffrage movement.

U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski, D-Western Springs, presented Asperger with a Congressional Record Statement recognizing her work and stated that "as the first elected female President of La Grange, she blazed a trail for aspiring civil leaders."
