Flooding Deal Likely In La Grange
The village should start now because costs will only grow, village president says.
LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange is moving toward an agreement with a regional agency on the issue of flooding in the village, its president said Monday. The deal would be with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, which treats wastewater and provides stormwater management.
The efforts are the result of major rainstorms that caused flooding in town in 2010, 2011 and 2014, among other years. Last year, the village settled litigation with a quarry on flooding issues.
"The board is looking very carefully at an agreement with MWRD," Village President Tom Livingston told the village board. "It's only a matter of time before another rain event comes along. We feel we have a commitment to improve the situation."

Dealing with flooding, Livingston said, is an "extremely long-term" process.
"We're doing things now as a village that will improve the situation years from now. You have to start somewhere. It only gets more expensive," he said.

The board has been meeting in closed session about the agreement with the reclamation district, he said. No action has been taken.
