Hazmat Called After Mercury Spill At La Grange Hospital
A fire department spokesman said a blood pressure machine fell in a vacant doctor's office Wednesday night.
LA GRANGE, IL — Fire units were called to what was described Wednesday night as a Hazmat incident at Amita Health Adventist Medical Center La Grange. Captain Brian Sible of the La Grange Fire Department said it was a blood pressure machine in a medical office building that fell and caused a mercury spill.
"The hospital supplied a spill kit, cleaned it up and sealed it," Sible said. "Maintenance now has (the mercury) secured in a storage locker."
Sible said the office building is not currently being used by any doctors and that only contractors would have been at the location at the time. No one was injured in the incident, which the fire department responded to at 7:56 p.m. and had cleared at 9:05 p.m.
