The church says it will remain "steadfast in our quest for justice."

LA GRANGE, IL — Two Black Lives Matter banners were stolen at the First Congregational Church of La Grange last week. But the church said it would remain "steadfast in our quest for justice."
According to a police report, the church reported the theft as happening last Thursday. The banners were valued at $200.
In a Facebook post last week, the church said the banners were cut off the light post and stolen. It said its rainbow banners have been shredded in the past.

"While this latest incident has been reported to the La Grange Police, we want the community to be aware as well," the Facebook post said. "We are confident that these actions do not reflect the values of the La Grange community. We have faith that our neighbors, whether they agree or disagree with the voices of justice and peace of this congregation, would not resort to acts of vandalism in the dead of the night."
The post called the church "resilient and persistent."

"We will replace the Black Lives Matter banners and remain steadfast in our quest for justice," the church said. "While this feels like an assault to us and our position on justice, we choose to see this as an affirmation that we are doing what is right, what is just, and what we are called to do. Prophetic voices have never been well accepted. But in the end, it is our calling."
