La Grange Council Approves BEDS Plus Development for the Homeless

Trustees set several caveats in the development agreement, reports say.

The divisive BEDS Plus development plans have overcome a major hurdle with unanimous approval from the La Grange Board of Trustees at their April 27 meeting.

The mixed-use facility would provide for the relocation of the BEDS Plus offices and its day program, as well as 20 units of supported housing, according to BEDS Plus.

The building would not replace the seven churches where BEDS Plus currently offers emergency overnight shelter.

Trustees set several caveats in the development agreement so they could move forward with the decision to approve the building, according to the Chicago Tribune.

A lawsuit against the bank selling the property to BEDS Plus may pose one more challenge to the development, with a third party claiming ownership of part of the property where the facility would be built, according to the Riverside-Brookfield Landmark. The suit requests a temporary restraining order against the property sale until the matter of ownership is settled.

If this conflict and others are settled, BEDS Plus could begin constructing the facility in 2016, the Landmark reported.
