LA GRANGE, IL – La Grange police decided again this week to keep a restaurant burglary report under wraps.

The burglary occurred Nov. 15 at Lucca's Pizzeria, 108 W. Burrlington Ave., police said in a blotter item in December.

Police denied Patch's records requests for the report on Dec. 15 and Thursday.

In December, police said the suspect entered through an unlocked back door, stealing two mixers valued at more than $1,800.

The mixers were found at a pawn shop in North Riverside, police said.

In its denial of Patch's recent request, police cited several exceptions under the open records law. Among them, police said disclosure would interfere with an active criminal investigation, reveal a confidential source and endanger a person's safety.

Police also said releasing the report "creates a substantial likelihood that a person will be deprived of a fair trial or an impartial hearing."

Patch has not seen an arrest of a person come through the police blotter.

The village did not explain how the report's release to a small news outlet such as Patch could deprive a person of a fair trial in Cook County, which has more than 1 million potential jurors.

Patch left a message for comment with village officials Friday morning.
