She graduated from Elmhurst University, where she studied business administration and communication studies. And she received a master's certificate in leadership studies from North Central College.

Mika would replace Lou Cipparone, who retired this summer after three decades with the La Grange village government. Under his leadership, the village received budget awards for years.

The Village Board hired GovHr USA to find a replacement for Cipparrone, with the service expected to cost $19,500.
