La Grange Trustees Unsatisfied with Small Reductions to Proposed Complex

A potential new residential complex could increase village density and noise.

The proposal for a new residential complex on a former YMCA site met pushback Monday at a La Grange Village Board of Trustees meeting.

Trustees, residents and the owner of the nearby Beacon Place condos expressed concern about the threat of density from the potential new complex, the sizes of the proposed units and the potential noise from a possible new traffic light the complex might bring, according to the Chicago Tribune and The Doings La Grange.

Opus Development Co. changed its proposal to reduce the number of units from 278 to 269, the Tribune reported, and to increase the size of the smallest offered apartments from 550 to 600 square feet. But Trustee James Palermo said the complex would still be too dense.

Sean Spellman, vice president and general manager of Opus, said major changes to the planned complex wouldn’t be financially feasible, according to news reports.

The board’s vote to accept or reject the development proposal is set for Sept. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Village Hall on La Grange Road, The Doings reported.
