Last call for Americanism Essay Contest entries!
American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1941 is calling for entries to its annual essay contest open to students in grades 7 through 12.
Just ten days from today on Friday, February 6, entries are due for our annual Americanism Essay Contest!
This year’s essay topic is “What new Amendment should be added to the U.S. Constitution?” and the contest is open to all students currently enrolled in 7th through 12th grades. The deadline for entries is Friday, February 6, 2015.
Participation in our essay program allows students to hone their critical thinking and writing skills while also providing an opportunity for open discussion of current events. The 2014 program drew over 130 essays from seven local schools and promoted dialogue between children and adults about improving the United States government.

Along with recognition at our awards ceremony, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each of the three class divisions will receive monetary awards. First place winners of each class division at our local unit level will move forward to district-level judging and may be eligible for additional prize money and scholarships at the state level, up to $1200.

This year’s award ceremony will be held on the evening of Wednesday, February 18 at our Coulter Legion home in La Grange during our annual joint Unit and Post meeting. Refreshments will be served, and winners, their families and teachers will all be invited.
When essays are complete, there are several submission options:
- Email us to arrange a pickup at your school.
- Email us to arrange a drop off during Monday night bingo at our Post home.
- Essays may be mailed to the address below, however, they must be received by February 6.
Please be sure students exactly follow the rules for the title pages and essays to prevent disqualification.
