Lions plunge for good cause

​Lyons Township High School's Polar Plunge team raised over $22,500 for Special Olympics of Illinois

Lyons Township High School successfully defended its “Cool School” title for the 8th consecutive year in the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics of Illinois. A total of 37 students and three staff members took the plunge recently at Northwestern University’s beach in Evanston. The 2020 Polar Plunge Team raised over $22,572 bringing the total funds raised to over $125,000 since 2013. LT Aviation teacher Dave Root claimed the “Golden Plunger” for being the top individual fundraiser for the 3rd consecutive year with a 2020 total of $3,616. The top student fundraiser on LT’s Team was junior Andrew Cmelo, of LaGrange Park, who brought in $2,775.
