Local State Farm's Kathy Dierkes 'Like a Good Neighbor'

Kathy Dierkes has been a La Grange State Farm agent for about 27 years, and she said the company's "Like a Good Neighbor" slogan rings true. 

She grew up in La Grange before her family moved to Naperville when she was 10, and her father and brother were also longtime insurance agents in the area.

Dierkes said she didn't want to follow that path, but after studying to teach in college, she learned to love the teaching aspect of insurance. 

"It's teaching. It's helping people," she said. "We help people recover from unexpected tragedies, help them plan for the future. It's about making their lives better."

Walk into Dierkes' office, at 712 W. Burlington Ave. in La Grange, and you might feel like you're stopping by a neighbor's house. Lexi, her corgi, greets everyone who walks in and is quick to ask for a belly rub. There's a small table for children to play at, too. 

"The relationship you have with your agent is the most important factor in insurance," Dierkes said. "You're not a number. The people, they're your friends."
