LT to host mental health presentation: Ending the Silence

Tuesday, May 7, at 7pm in the South Campus Performing Arts Center

Lyons Township High School, in conjunction with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), is hosting a parent presentation, entitled Ending the Silence, Tuesday, May 7, at 7pm in the South Campus Performing Arts Center, 4900 S. Willow Springs Rd., Western Springs. The free, 50 minute presentation is designed to give parents an opportunity to learn about mental illness, its symptoms and indicators and ideas about how to help themselves, friends, or family members who may be in need of support. The presentation also includes personal testimony from a young adult living with a mental illness and his/her journey to recovery.

“Mental illness knows no gender, geographical or economic boundary. Its symptoms are often masked, and its victims are often misunderstood. Our hope is that this presentation raises awareness by helping people recognize signs and symptoms and serves as a resource by helping people talk about mental illness to erase the stigma so often attached to it,” said Donna Bredrup, LT Student Support Division Chair.

No registration is necessary. For questions or additional details, please contact LT Student Support Counselors Nadia Malik at 708-579-6507 or Anne Strickland at 708-579-6028.
