Rivera, whose family lives in Puerto Rico, saw the devastating impact the hurricane made on the schools in the mountainous areas. Hurricane Maria was a Category 5 hurricane that devastated Dominica, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico in September 2017.

Rivera said, “I wanted to help kids who have been affected by the closing of their schools and the loss of their homes. As an educator, I want them to be able to have the tools to start their school year right.”

Monetary donations are also welcome at paypal.me/Maryann26. For additional details, please contact Mary Ann Rivera at mrivera@lths.net.
