LT to perform Once on this Island

February 19-20, 22 in the South Campus Performing Arts Center

The Lyons Township High School Theatre Board and Music and Dance departments proudly present Once on this Island with book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty. The musical is based on the novel My Love, My Love by Rosa Guy. Theatre teacher Eugene O’Reilly is the director, music teacher David Hartley is the musical director, dance teacher Terry Wethington is the choreographer and music teacher John Musick is the pit conductor. The accompanist is Emma Gingold. The assistant director is junior Katie Burke, of LaGrange, and junior Maggie Madro, of Western Springs, is the student assistant.

Once on this Island, the musical, takes place on an island very similar to Haiti where the people are divided into two groups – the haves and the peasants. Peasant Ti Moune longs for a more exciting life than fishing and farming. Through manipulation of the four gods - Death, Love, Earth and Water - Ti Moune witnesses an accident, where a young rich man is severely injured. She nurses him, falls for him, and believes they are destined for each other. Once he is returned to his people, she journeys to the rich city to rekindle their love. But, will this peasant be accepted amongst the fine world of the grand hommes?

Performances are scheduled for Thursday and Friday, February 19 and 20, at 7:30pm, and Sunday, February 22, at 2pm and 7pm in the South Campus Performing Arts Center, at 4900 S. Willow Springs Rd., Western Springs. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children/senior citizens. LT students are $5 with school ID. Tickets may be purchased in the box office, which opens one hour before the show. The theater opens 30 minutes before the performance and the show starts promptly.
