LT’s Model UN Club starts season strong

With the first half of the season behind them, the Lyons Township High School Model United Nations Club has racked up several top honors

With the first half of the season behind them, the Lyons Township High School Model United Nations Club has racked up several top honors, with the LT delegation placing first in a recent 40-school tournament. A total of 18 students earned individual awards during this first half of the Model UN season, with three of them receiving awards at more than one competition.

Most recently at the Notre Dame University tournament, six students received recognition.

Colin Flueck, Junior (Western Springs) - Best: 1st place
Abby Gee, Junior (LaGrange) - Outstanding: 2nd place
Olivia Grefenstette, Freshman (LaGrange) - Honorable: 3rd place
Ella Happel, Freshman (LaGrange) - Honorable: 3rd place
Mimi Goodridge, Senior (Western Springs) - Verbal: 4th place
Peter Mikulski, Freshman (Western Springs) - Verbal: 4th place

LT placed first out of 40 schools at the University of Michigan. They received the Best Large Delegation honors. Individual award winners were:

Collette Doyle, Junior (Willow Springs) - Best: 1st place
Matt Hiatt, Junior (Western Springs) - Best: 1st place
Quinn Riordan, Junior (LaGrange) - Best: 1st place
Hazel Stocco, Senior (Western Springs) - Best: 1st place
Addy Volz, Sophomore (LaGrange) - Outstanding: 2nd place
Bridget Arnold, Junior (LaGrange Park) - Outstanding: 2nd place
Mimi Goodridge, Senior (Western Springs) - Outstanding: 2nd place
Peter Mikulski, Freshman (Western Springs) - Outstanding: 2nd place
Melissa Sloan, Junior (LaGrange) - Honorable Mention: 3rd place
Satchel Fryzel, Senior (Western Springs) - Honorable Mention: 3rd place

Finally at the Francis Parker tournament, MUN too home five Honorable Mention Awards. Congratulations:

Ari Jameel, Sophomore (Western Springs) - Honorable Mention: 3rd place
Nate Rulich, Sophomore (Brookfield) - Honorable Mention: 3rd place
Melissa Sloan, Junior (LaGrange) - Honorable Mention: 3rd place
Jack Sluis, Freshman (Western Springs) - Honorable Mention: 3rd place
Eric White, Freshman (LaGrange) - Honorable Mention: 3rd place

The students are looking forward to February 29, when LT will host a conference at North Campus with 600 students from 30 different schools. In addition, LT MUN plans to attend conferences at Michigan State University and Glenbrook South High School.
