LT Student Wins Contest Hosted By Sandy Hook Promise
The contest had students submit spoken, written, or visual ideas that promote inclusiveness and kindness in their school and community.

LA GRANGE, IL — Sandy Hook Promise, which has a mission to prevent gun violence, recently announced the winners of their Start With Hello Student Voices Contest. LT student Anaya Garcia won third place for the visual arts-high school category.
According to the organization, the national contest was held in conjunction with SHP’s annual Start With Hello Call-to-Action Week this past February and invited students in grades 2 – 12 to submit spoken, written, or visual ideas that promote inclusiveness and kindness in their school and community.
Students from across the country submitted thoughtful and moving works of art including original songs, poems, essays, skits and visual pieces. Other winners from Illinois included Cheyenne Griffin, a student at Amos Alonzo Stagg High School; Nourhan Abdelbaky, a student at Amos Alonzo Stagg High School; Electra Buckley, a student at Amos Alonzo Stagg High School; and Nicole Saenz, a student at Amos Alonzo Stagg High School.

According to the organization, Sandy Hook Promise is a nonprofit based in Newtown, Connecticut, and is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, 2012.
