LT Teacher Responds To Face Mask Need

Family and Consumer Sciences teacher Laurn Gjini and her students have been very busy responding to a coronavirus need

One hundred fifty chemotherapy comfort pillows and fifty surgical masks delivered and more on the way, Family and Consumer Sciences teacher Laurn Gjini and her students have been very busy responding to a coronavirus need and providing comfort.

When fellow FCS teacher Danielle Radzialowski told Gjini about the unfortunate circumstance of her sister undergoing chemotherapy and the hospital's needs, she responded. A nurse from Advocate Christ Medical Center explained how there was a shortage of support pillows for patients and how they never have enough. Within a week, LT teacher Gjini and her students had sewed 150 pillows.

Fast forward a week later with COVID-19 and e-learning and another request from a radiology technician at Comer Children’s Hospital for surgical masks. Once again, Gjini responded and just five hours after the request was made, 12 masks were completed. A few days later, the count was up to 50.
